Every year, "ERW" kills or injures large numbers of civilians. These remnants are unexploded weapons left over from an armed conflict, such as artillery shells, mortars, grenades, bombs and rockets. In 2003, the international community adopted a treaty to help reduce human suffering caused by explosive remnants of war and provide rapid assistance to affected communities.
